We are on a journey through another one of my small artist sketchbooks. As with all my books of this type, I take a sketchbook and fill it with whatever I feel like doing at the time. No planning, just enjoyment.
This book was done between August 2020 and February 2022, more or less (I date each page as I do it).
I don’t go through the book page by page in order, though in general the earlier images are at the front and the later ones following – but sometimes I skip pages and come back later, or do some other thing. No reason, that is just how I do it.
Let’s take a look.
Here’s today’s page spread. On the left, three versions I drew of myself from a photo, using blind contouring (cheating a little by cleaning up the images later); and the other one, well, the TV and table are like the ones we have here at home, the rest just filled itself in.

Here are individual views of the pages.
Okay so I know I’ve followed you for a while as I immediately recognized the drawing of you on the beach without even reading the text yet. I remember when you shared the original photo!
Yes. For some reason that picture keeps appearing in various ways in my art. Sometimes that happens, that I fasten on to an image. And I don’t know why.
Both pages are great. You are excellent at blind contour.
Well, I did cheat some. But, I do love the technique and I think I draw better when I don’t look, a lot of the time.
I like the three version dude
It is always fun to see how blind contour drawings come out. And the idea that you did three and they are so similar tells us that we can trust our eyes.
The key is to move the pen slowly, I think. Give your eyes the chance to really look rather than just sweeping them over the subject. That is what I have learned in doing these. It takes time to see things or maybe it’s taking the time for the brain to catch up? I don’t know, just that if I hurry, these things never come out right.
