Yes, I think the rectangular method comes to me from when I did fabric applique wall hangings because my people figures somehow looked better in rectangles than curved, and I liked the look. Also, it is easier to put a figure together in collage ( for me, anyway) in pieces, and I gravitated to rectangles and the like rather than curved pieces there too.
