Have you ever thought about the idea that the mannequins in store windows might be observing you and sizing you up?
This store window is on Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr, PA, and the display and photo are from June 2021. In keeping with my ongoing project of drawing scenes from my everyday life, I did a pen sketch. Here it is. It’s in my small sketchbook and is about 5″ x 8″ or so.
I like the dress in the middle. Pick up that for me next time you are by that store. Don’t forget how short I am so Petite cut.
Yes, that is the one I liked too. Very classic!
oops, pressed send too fast. I will certainly remember the Petite option for you. We know the line of a dress is important and must fit the proportions of the wearer! I sort of wish sometimes I could have a custom suit made for me. Nowhere to wear it, I would just like it.
Very witty title! Thanks for giving me a morning laugh-out-loud.
You are welcome! Now the next time you go by a store window, you will think about it a little differently, that grouping of mannequins inside…
You’ve captured the weight/balance of the mannequin poses perfectly.
Thank you. I have always loved mannequins and these seemed particularly graceful to me.
Well, some mannequins used to be very scary when they had heads with faces!! Not sure why nowadays we are more accepting of these decapitated ones. Quite bizarre when you think about it!
Yes, I have thought so too. I think it is to make us focus on the clothes and how they look on a body, undistracted by a head, which makes me at least give the mannequin a whole other interpretations and focus (more toward looking at it as a person and away from the clothing)
Yes, I expect that’s the case, and we’ve all got so used to it now even the mannequins for hats and headgear are faceless.
Appropriate for Halloween. Perhaps the heads are inside sampling makeup. (K)
Chatting to sales people and trying on hats?
No doubt.
Have you perhaps read Klara and the Sun by Ishiguro?
No, I haven’t. I’ll look it up!
I love it!😍
Thank you! I like mannequins in general and I like drawing them.
So cool and I am waiting for the store mannequin revolt someday! (hey that is a great idea for a science fiction movie…)
Yes, it is, and the sight of those headless bodies coming at you will scare the life out of you, won’t it? It will do that to me, I know.
