Thank you. I think this place will be renewed. Real estate in Washington DC is incredibly expensive and this location is valuable. Although more for the land than building (probably expensive condos will be built…) so I am glad I captured this structure in case it does not survive.
When they built the M11 in UK they demolished a lovely gothic house near Leytonstone, North London. It was a real vampire style and had windows that glared at you. I loved it but didn’t have a camera and didn’t sketch it either. Have you seen on Facebook a group called ‘Abandoned buildings’ I think. Some beautiful structures.
I’ve always liked buildings in a state of shabbiness or outright decay and when they get all shined up, I am not so interested anymore. I wonder why this is…I will check outt the group you mention. Sounds interesting.
Thank you. I like the look of this place – don’t know if it will survive the hot real estate market there in DC, could easily be torn down and condo or houses put there instead.
Thank you. I liked how this little building was presenting itself and I have the feeling it may not last – DC real estate is so expensive I have the feeling a condo building will be there someday…not another little shop.
This little place caught my eye because of its interesting looks and the fact that it is in transition. I wonder if over time, things will change. I will try to take a look next time I visit, if we go out for a walk.
Yes, you would think a photo would convey more info than it does, actually, and I think it’s hard to get a photo of a scene like this that calls out to a viewer. Maybe in a drawing their is emphasis and direction in how the scene is depicted to bring out its personality. At least that is what I think happens when I draw, it’s not conscious, it just kind of happens.
You have such great skill! The way you have retained the textures minimalistically is just amazing! The outdoor looks awesome!
Thank you!
Great sketch. Great building. Hopefully someone will bring it back to life.

Another great drawing. I really like all the visual texture.

That is one wonderful sketch!

There’s always so much life in your drawings! This one’s a gem. 👏👏👏👏👏

No matter what, a sketch is so much more interesting than a photo!
