I’m trying to do a little more drawing. This summer (and on and on, for who knows how long, I guess until I get some new idea) I’m drawing recents sights from my daily life.
Here is a view of a toll plaza in Baltimore MD from a trip to Washington DC we made in May 2021. Pen and ink and the notebook is about 8″ x 6″ or so.

Wow! So good. I remember when we used to drive up 95 to NYC to see our kids. Then we started taking the train. Miss these sights and sites.
Thank you. I don’t enjoy 95 at all, I emerge from a trip down it feeling wrung out, so I try to find scene along the way and take photos or whatever, to distract myself! This was one of them in our last trip.
I think the composition is really strong with the top of the toll booth signs creating a horizon in the middle with the calm clouds above and the busy humans and machines below. I also like the way you have emphasized the way the lanes fan out from the centre point of the composition.
I took this photo for that fanning-out reason – I saw it and clicked the camera fast to catch it. I loved the way this scene looked. Almost like a portal to another world, maybe…?
