A while back I had an idea (don’t know from where) to choose a couple of photos at random and see if I could combine them into an image. I have been doing these paintings in a large sketchbook (mixed media paper) – it’s 18″ x 24″.
Here is the second one. These are the photos I used: an alley in Pittsburgh, PA; clothesline kids’ art at a street fair in Sellersville, PA.
Here is the painting. It is called Art Show in an Alley.
This is a great idea for a painting prompt! The painting looks great-
Thank you. It is fun and as long as you don’t steer the picture choices for the source images, anything can happen!
I am really enjoying these “conjoined compositions” of yours. The painting makes me think of bunting in a street and makes me curious about what the figures could be celebrating. I like the way you make the strung artwork and the figures shades of white so that they pop out against the colourful background.
Thank you. I was uncertain as to how these would work out as both were street scenes, although oc course very different. In the end, a lot of changes ocurred to get to this final image, which I like. I think people needed to be in strong contrast but I can’t take credit for them – I had left them blank until the end and then I realized – they looked right. So I just painted in the white color (instead of leaving the paper showing) and that was that!
I just love this idea, really cool paintings!
Thank you. It really does give you a nice freedom to do this, you make your own realities!
Good idea
Thank you. I am just getting started on this, I think. It feels odd to do one of these pictures, kind of disorienting to your mind, and yet very relaxing, because once you leave reality, even a little, well…
I love the alleyway photo and great merging!
Thank you. I love alleyways. Much more interesting than the front sides.
This is genius! Beautiful genius!
Thank you. It is fun to do and challenging because you want to make the picture “real” and sway it in a certain direction, but you need to just let it follow the images. I mean, I need to! When I do that it is so intriguing to see what happens.
