Happenstance Art

I all but stumbled upon this art as I was walking down the street.

Take a look at these abstract compositions.

Here they are on the gallery wall…floor…pavement.

Crossing stripes Jenkintown 7-15-20 (7)

Yes, crosswalk stripes. I took these photos one early morning in July 2020. The time of day turned the white stripes bluish, and I left them that way, because I thought they all were so beautiful.

I saw these stripes in Jenkintown, PA, but you can see them anywhere. Art by happenstance. Stop and look!

I see these crosswalk compositions everywhere around here, but I never was able to stop and photo them, though I’ve admired them often. You are right, there is beauty everywhere, if we will just see it.

I thought this post might segue into a post about you transforming these abstract images into pen and ink illustrations. These offer even more lines and cracks than your usual sidewalk inspiration.

I had considered it, but I came to the conclusion that they have so much detail already, adding to it could be a muddle. Although in some cases there are not so many lines as in others.

Thank you. I have seen these cracked crosswalks everywhere around here, this was the first time I had the camera out and also was not running but rather walking, so I was more motivated to stop and capture the images.

I was running one day and these patterns struck me (at another location, these cracked crosswalks are everywhere) but I did not have my camera at hand, so when I saw these…I took the chance and photoed them, glad I did.
