These tiles are the end of the work I have to show you that I did at my studio clay class that I attended in fall 2019 and winter 2020.
I made the little people by collaging clay on top of a slab. The small tile was made with one of my personally-created stamps.
Both of these were dip glazed and are done in stoneware clay fired at cone 6. They are about 2 inches each, more or less, in size.
Maybe there will be another clay studio class in my future. Time will tell me that answer to that.
I hope there is, too. These are terrific.
Thank you. It’s possible I will be able to get there for some glazing (I could make and fire the first stages at home in my own kiln, but the school has a large array of these glazes that I’ve been interested in and I can only do that there). We will see. I am afraid it may be some time.
Sometimes ‘simple’ is most difficult with extraordinary appeal. Love these!
Thank you. I have made many of these little guys but these are the first that I glazed in this manner.
I am not well versed in the language of ceramics but I am really enjoying what the speckled and freckled nature of these glazes adds to your work.
Part of the effect is also the clay, it is a nice toasty tan with speckles of iron in it. That is what you are seeing through the glaze, or interacting with the glazes (since it’s all chemistry, everything from the composition of the clay to the elements in the glazes, to the heat it’s all fired at, contributes). Never two the same.
Ooh. I like that idea of a little bit of unpredictability. Thanks for explaining.
So awesome and adorable!
Thank you!
Love them!
Thank you. I’ve made a lot of these guys over the years, trying out lots of different looks. I think these are some of my best (I really like the glaze technique and I think it shows off their personalities well).
