In October 2017 I came across an internet blog challenge for a story written in two sentences. I wrote a story. Liking the format, I did another one. Another one. And another.
Quite a few stories later, I had enough for a book. Not only did I have stories, but I had written a short poem and created a brush and India ink illustration for each one as well.
The result was Minuscule, published in 2018. I’m now going to show you the book illustrations as an ongoing feature on this blog, once a week. I’ll link back to the story (they have been published one by one on my poetry blog).
If you want to hold the entire book in your hand, the print version is available on Amazon.
“Mock” is the name of the story…
This is great, and definitely an inspiration for me, as I love to doodle and am a freelance writer. So, thank you!
Thank you. Somehow that internet challenge really sparked a habit – I have written lots of these stories and then when I got the idea of illustrating them, even more fun. I feel as I went on my drawing skills and writing skills both improved, plus, I just really enjoyed it.
Love the use of the diagonal truck and the vertical tools etc set against that strong black/white horizon.
Thank you. I would like to revisit this scene again, mostly to draw tools. I have some photos of our tools in the garage…and I don’t know why but this subject fascinates me. (I also like tools and I like yard work that they are used for, maybe that is it.)
I used to draw a whole lots of my Dad’s tools when I was teaching myself about tonal range.
Here is a post featuring my favorite tool. I am waiting for it to be time to get going on yard work again soon!
