Acrylics and collage, March 2020, 20″ x 16″.
My husband told me that he interpreted all the patterns in the lady’s clothing and on her head as being the complexity of ideas and color and narrative that she is deriving from her reading. I love that idea.
I read a lot and I have done my share of staying up late to finish a book.
When I was a child, I would turn out my light at my parents’ request. And then I would turn around in bed with my head at the foot of the bed, stretch out on my stomach, with the open book in front of me, so that I could continue to read by the light from the hall that came in through the half-open door.
This lady is not having to make this kind of accommodation. She can stay up and read in comfort as long as she wants.
Very insightful comment by Bob!
All those years of looking at art have paid off!
Colour and pattern – what more do you want from life? I love this one, but then, as you know, I am a colourful pattern type myself.
Thank you. Yes, I feel the same way about your work, I love the complexity of shapes and colors you have, and how it is possible to get lost in a pattern. Yours, and for me, I think it;s just how I have always been – I enjoy really examining and “feeling” colors and shapes and how they work together.
For me it was under the bedclothes with a torch. Your husband’s comment makes sense. You clearly have a mind like a rich and beautifully patterned quilt!
Thank you. I think that is such a nice thing to say and I love the idea that the inside of my head is like that. I do have lots of ideas, it is busy in there, like a crowded city full of lights and action. You know, I had to do that hall light thing because they took the flashlight away from me and put it where I could not get at it.
