Gilligan’s Island Revisited

For those of us of a certain age and geography, you know what I am talking about. For some reason this tile reminded me of Gilligan and his red shirt and white pants. He looks like he is about to get into trouble once again and then the Skipper will start yelling.

I didn’t do it on purpose, honest, but I loved that TV show and so this tile makes me happy for the memory and happy because – I like the colors of this tile, too.

I am aware of the show having existed but I never watched it. I do, however, love all the weird shapes and bold colours in this tile. It is definitely otherwordly and – not knowing the show but having seen the word “island” – the figure actually makes me think of Caliban.

Thank you. As for Gilligan’s Island, it has something about it that has made me love it all these years. You need to see some of it, it’s a culture icon (to kids from the 1960’s, at least, and where I grew up). I did a 5K a few years back at Halloween, costumes encouraged, and one group of seven ran as the castaways, pretty funny to see them, and all of them decades younger than anyone who saw the show originally. Anyway, the tile turned out well, after three firing tries, I could not get the background right.

During my 1970s/80s childhood, a lot of 1960s US shows were broadcast on TV but I really don’t recall Gilligan’s Island being one of those. Lost in Space, Land of the Giants. and The Monkees were the ones I watched. We didn’t have a TV at home so I pretty much watched anything that was on when I had access to a TV.
